Back to their roots on their very own Ambush Reality label distributed through PIAS are heavy-techno-pop-punk-metal masters of the mosh pit... Enter Shikari.  Anyone who's been to a show will appreciated the devote allegiance of the Shikari faithful.  Great to see the boys flying the flag of independence and flying in the faces just about everyone else.…

Anyone for Apple & Blackberry Crumble?

What is the dominant power in today's society?  What defines the behaviour of the younger generation?  What will become celebrated in history as the key influencer on the way we consume, act upon information and base the decisions that we make in everyday life?  As little as fifty years ago this sway was debatably in the hands of Government leaders.  The general consensus was that the diametrically…

22 year old Leddra Chapman is not your typical Essex girl...  She makes perfect Sunday afternoon whimsical melodies infused with delicate Englishness.  Harpsichord, brass sections, strings and piano support accomplished guitar picking that should leave you with a contented sigh.  I'd suggest a glass of well chilled Pinot Gris would be the ideal…

Home of London based Nu-Funk, Breaks and Electro House, AIR are purveyors of finest quality dance music (and some rather nice hip hop).  The cluberati roster includes Rennie Pilgrim, Krafty Kuts, Bassnectar and an old fave of mine, Lasersonic. If you need a weekend warm up, or like me, some beats to clean the house to on Saturday morn then this weeks…

SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND: Life can be a real pig at times @accidentallabel #SFTW

OK - not everything on the Accidental record label is animal influenced...  If you're planning a dinner party on Saturday you can happily use this weeks link, safe in the knowledge that your discerning soundtrack will fill any awkward silences with stimulating yet not overbearing musical abstracts including some pretty cool s**t.  Here is Accidental Records: …

SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND: From Stratford to Holborn via Uranus @radiosoulwax #SFTW

This week the usual Spotify link doesn't suffice…  I'm afraid you'll need a smartphone and if you are thus endowed don't worry, the app is free and it delivers a delightful audio-visual experience that discerning music fans can't afford to miss out on.  And the concept and content would not be out of place as an installation in the Tate Modern.  I…

This week's Spotify label link is to the 4AD catalogue.  A seminal independent label and fundamental part of the Beggars Banquet group, 4AD's roster has included Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins, Throwing Muses and Pixies.  It's current acts include Bon Iver, Blonde Redhead and Camera Obscura. Here is 4AD: …

Why aren't all albums released as apps?

Apps are the obvious default recorded music format of the future, aren't they?  Music album apps can deliver all the enhanced location based immersive content and value added wizardry one can imagine.  Not to mention the utopian IFPI vision of a format that's pretty difficult to pirate given the current monopoly on app distribution.  And unless you want an interactive…

Something for the weekend: PIAS Recordings #SFTW @piasuk

I've always believed in the power of music and the importance of independent repertoire to society as a whole.  I've been lucky enough to work on projects for some of the World's biggest acts and over the last two years work closely with Europe's largest independent music distributor.  In light of the fact that I'm leaving the music industry to ply my trade across a…

I set up Who'd of Thought It in 2010, as a blog and place to share and develop ideas.

It evolved into a small community and forum to post thoughts and canvass feedback, with me entertaining the notion of perhaps collaborating on and publishing some of the content to a wider audience. After gathering some initial traction (there are some novel concepts in the archive) other ventures took precedence.

'WoTI' now serves as a occasional pleasure, scrapbook of ideas and guest posts from those who dare. But never say never!

Enjoy! Chris Thompson
