Get up, look in the mirror and say to yourself, I'm amazing! #Lift @biz

Lift: “a new app designed to unlock human potential through positive reinforcement.” Eh!?  'Lift' is a new project backed by the founders of Twitter...

Intrigued?  I am.  Well I've aways wanted to fulfil my potential. What on earth will it do though?  Presumably map my digital fingerprint, expose my strengths and weaknesses and provide invaluable guidance on how to achieve my aspirations.… Continue

The Three Laws (of Digital Marketing)

  1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
  2. A robot must obey any orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
  3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such…

SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND: 4AD @4AD_Official #SFTW

This week's Spotify label link is to the 4AD catalogue.  A seminal independent label and fundamental part of the Beggars Banquet group, 4AD's roster has included Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins, Throwing Muses and Pixies.  It's current acts include Bon Iver, Blonde Redhead and Camera Obscura. Here is 4AD: …

Why aren't all albums released as apps?

Apps are the obvious default recorded music format of the future, aren't they?  Music album apps can deliver all the enhanced location based immersive content and value added wizardry one can imagine.  Not to mention the utopian IFPI vision of a format that's pretty difficult to pirate given the current monopoly on app distribution.  And unless you want an interactive…

Skin Up & Get Into My Trousers #NFC #Fashion

There's much hype and expectation around Near Field Communication (NFC) at the moment (the clever chip that allows you to touch your credit card on an NFC reader to pay for your skinny latte without entering your PIN).  Will all new mobile handsets be equipped with NFC chips, seems logical right?  Most say yes though on the face of it our other new friend, the QR code, seems equally capable of creating the same…

Keep It REAL - The Global Business Development Opportunity In Education

In the first quarter of 2011 emerging market hedge fund capital reached a record $121 billion.  My cousin just told me some primary schools in Ireland are offering parents 50% towards to cost of an iPad and iBooks.  Chinese students at a Miao village in Ziyun country attend school in a cave.  Significant beacons of hope in stabilising the…

Mobile Splash Pages - A Missed Opportunity?

When you look at a shop frontage on the high street more often than not you're confronted with a special offer.  Many websites adopt the same formula serving a 'splash' or 'landing' page promoting the latest discount, product or service.  You click to take advantage of the offer or click though to enter the website.  Used strategically, optimised around key terms that customers search or are likely to be searching…

Something for the weekend: PIAS Recordings #SFTW @piasuk

I've always believed in the power of music and the importance of independent repertoire to society as a whole.  I've been lucky enough to work on projects for some of the World's biggest acts and over the last two years work closely with Europe's largest independent music distributor.  In light of the fact that I'm leaving the music industry to ply my trade across a…

Is there an App for that?: Hangover Cure

Yes!  It's called Hangover Soother and is a decidedly underwhelming one dimensional experience that somewhat predictably plays 'ambient sounds'...  No sharing details of the previous nights cocktail with Facebook friends, no list of credible excuses for being late to work, no Doctor Dan to advise…

The Internet is Always Broken

Does anyone know how to verify a redirected domain? It's about as easy as chewing off your own head and feels as though you are. And I'm supposed to be web savvy! Two hours of googling, multiple support tickets with various providers, a premium rate phone call (old school huh), and twenty quids worth of domain service subscriptions later, despite being integrated with Facebook and Twitter…

"Panic On The Streets of London..."

"...Panic on the streets of Birmingham, I wonder to myself..."  Why?  When You Tube streams have topped 1.2 billion per day and my wife calls asking me to collect her from a city centre restaurant in Birmingham, locked down due to gangs of hooded rioters (no-doubt uploading their antics to You Tube), why can't I jump on my iPhone a view the situation in real-time?  Most major…

What's Popular?

What's popular isn't necessarily always where the money is but if you're a consumer brand you might consider wrapping your product around what's popular:

Digital Chaos Theory

Disruptive technology should lead to revision and evolution but is the incessant omnipresence of news, data, blogs and social positioning - everything everywhere all the time - creating digital chaos?

Perhaps I'm just over-subscribed!

Maybe there is an opportunity for a intelligent social presence optimiser (iSPO).  An app that moderates your online…

About

I set up Who'd of Thought It in 2010, as a blog and place to share and develop ideas.

It evolved into a small community and forum to post thoughts and canvass feedback, with me entertaining the notion of perhaps collaborating on and publishing some of the content to a wider audience. After gathering some initial traction (there are some novel concepts in the archive) other ventures took precedence.

'WoTI' now serves as a occasional pleasure, scrapbook of ideas and guest posts from those who dare. But never say never!

Enjoy! Chris Thompson
